7 WordPress Plugins To Make SEO Life Easier

If you’re planning to build a new blog or simply re-establish your old one, make sure you consider using Wordpress. Wordpress is one of the easiest to use CMS’s available, and it actually allows for quite a bit of customization especially if you choose to do the manual install on your own server.

If you take the plunge and head over to Wordpress, we’ve got a few plugins that we highly recommend you give some attention to as they’ll greatly lower the amount of work that you have to put in to getting your blog SEO’d and keeping it that way:

1. All in one SEO plugin  - This is a must have plugin, no exceptions. Many plugins dub themselves something all powerful and claim to offer everything you need in one place. If there was only one plugin to download, this would be it. The All in one SEO plugin allows you to easily optimize your title setup, the meta tag layout, and fine tune all your keywords for the search engines to properly pick it up. Once you’ve configured it initially, you’ll never really have to go back and do it again, unless you want to drastically change something. This plugin also avoids duplicate content and sets out the proper slug layout, making things so much easier for your new and existing blog.

2. Platinum SEO Plugin – This plugin allows you to be a lot more restrictive and add additional values to nearly all your hyperlinks and pages. You can easily add index, noindex, follow or nofollow, noarchive, nosnippet, noodp, and noydir meta tags to every single page or post with just a click. It will also handle all 301 redirect issues if you give it the ability to do so.

3. SEO Title tag – If you’re looking to do things a little bit more manually and just want to edit the title tags by themselves, this is a great plugin to get to handle just that need.

4. Add Meta tags – Again, if you’re not satisfied with the ability to add meta tag data to your site through All in one SEO plugin or Platinum SEO Plugin, then you should check out this one to make things a little bit easier for you. Although we do highly recommend one of the other two over this, it’s still not bad.

5. SEO friendly Images – You can gain a lot of benefit from properly SEOing your pictures. This program does just that by making it easier to add a regular title, description, and an alt title to each of the images you upload or the ones you hotlink from other sites. If you plan on using any images on your site, we recommend you make use of this plugin specifically.

6. SEO slug Plugin - Having the title of your post instantly turned into the post slug is very useful, but what isn’t useful is all the words like “a” and “the” that wind up in there. Theses words do nothing for the keyword value of that slug. This specific plugin works to remove all of those words before it creates the slug for you automatically, making everything that much easier and that much more optimized without any effort on your end or loss on the end of your readers.

7. SEO smart link – Deep linking and interlinking between your pages is a must. But besides keeping a list of all your other posts open and going through them as you write a new post, there aren’t a lot of easy options. Oh wait, there are. SEO smart link does exactly that. It adds links to where they are most relevant from within the context of your current post and shows them to you for approval. You may not always want the post refering to the categories section, so feel free to mess around with the settings on this plugin to make it work for your needs.

These are just a few of the SEO based plugins that we recommend for use with Wordpress.
