Is Google Making webmasters face-off against each other?

Posted by seoman 20 August, 2007

This year has been a little crazy for the webmaster community with out of order PR updates and also the new feature that Google rolled out that will allow people to identify who sells links on their site to Google……yeah, I said it, you can now pretty much destroy your competition! This new feature that Google pulled has had the webmaster community up in a roar because why does Google get to say how we make our money, right? If we have created a great site and would like to monetize it with some paid links, then why does google have to say that it is not ok. They have just given the power into the hands of people that can systematically destroy each other until the other wins!

Let’s say that I have a website where I have sold a few links in order to make a little extra cash, maybe pay for my hosting for the month. You come along and find out that I have sold links on my site and you are also one of my biggest competitors. You now have the power to pretty much taddle-tale on me and get my links devalued in the eyes of Google. As this concept was brought out on Aaron Wall’s blog, all webmasters alike started to complain and tell google how we really felt. It was nice to see the webmasters unite for such a worth clause, but yet there are still quite a few people who have taddled on others to get ahead and it is really disgusting.
