The Power Of The More Tag - Wordpress Blogs

Posted by seoman 5 June, 2008

The MORE tag is a great way to split up your blog posts. Instead of seeing all 3,000 words you’ve written on your main page, you can actually split it up so the user has to go into the individual post page to actually read the entire entry. There are plenty of advantages of using the more tag, and below are a few of them:

  • Use Post Title In More Tag
You’re main keywords for your post should already be in your title, so by having the title repeated again on the main page, the keyword density for the keywords are now increased. While it may not seem like a lot, that’s one less time you’ll have to try and push your keywords into the article. By default, the more tag is also set as a strong word in bold, further benefiting your ability to rank for that keyword.
  • More Pages Viewed Per Visitor
With your posts completely laid out on your main page, your readers may never go any further back unless they’re looking for something specific. By setting the more tag in your posts, that’s two pages minimum if the visitor entered through your main page. There are plenty of plugins that automatically set the more tag and continue to use them even in achieve, category, and tag pages.
  • Different Ad Layout
The more ads you have on a page, the more spammy it looks and the less you’re paid, at least with adsense. Having another page for your visitors to go to not only gives you more ad impressions, but the ads can then tailor themselves to the keywords of the specific article and not just your main site.

Wordpress itself offers a more tag setting that you an easily access through the dashboard, but there are plenty of plugins that will allow much easier to use methods.
