At some point or another, we’ve all considered using Black Hat techniques. Hell, we probably still use some of the lesser known or more easily hidden ones. But when it comes down to it, the ones that are most readily available to those who are just stepping into the SEO business are usually the worst ones you can even consider trying. So while this may seem kind of obvious to many of you, consider this a warning for those new in the industry.

• Keyword Stuff:
  It’s exactly what it sounds like. This can range from simply overdoing your keywords to straight out filling a page with the keyword. Google doesn’t non-stop patrol the internet for this sort of thing, but they do cache everything they index. So while you may get a quick burst of traffic from this, your visitors are going to be leaving rather quickly. And what’s worse is that they’ll even come back and de-list your site for their search engine after you’ve cleaned it up because of how poorly this method works.
• Invisible Text:
  Writing text to match the color of your background (white being the most common choice) does allow you to place useless text in the top left and bottom right corner of your website. That means that it’s the first and last thing that the spider sees when it crawls your page. While this method doesn’t push your visitors away, search engine robots have a keen sense as to where text should actually be on your site. Just like keyword stuffing, you can easily get slammed for doing something like this way down the line.
• Doorway Pages:
  You know when you click on a link but you can’t simply hit back to get to the page that you were just on? Those are doorway pages. Pages you’re not on long enough to even realize, yet the search engine spiders eat it up. They burn through there and read all that keyword stuffed content that you never have to see, but trends in traffic and duration on that page usually wind up costing you more than you’ve gained. Using doorway pages is probably the fastest method on here to get de- listed.
