YPN’s targeting issues

If you haven’t heard of Yahoo’s alternative to Adsense, then you need to check out Yahoo’s publisher network.  It has the same principle as Adsense in how it allows a webmaster to monetize a site with ads.  It can be hard to get into the YPN network because they have strict rules and want to make sure that everyone follows them, kind of like Google’s program.  I believe that YPN is also still in beta, so it will pick and choose who can be included.  Here comes the downfall of YPN!

Google’s adsense program does an awesome job of targeting ads toward the content that is on your site.  You do not have to worry if a sex ad pops up on your site about cooking for the family.  You do not want that seen by your visitors, it doesn’t promote well with your site.  Yahoo’s publisher network is still struggling with some targeting issues that is making some webmasters angry.  You would think that Yahoo would roll out a program that would be able to play with Adsense, but without the targeting on, they can kiss it goodbye.  When the ads are not targeted, then you are losing the potential for clicks and therefore a loss in revenue.  I do not know about you, but I would not try a program that could have the potential of losing me some revenue.  Hopefully YPN gets on track and starts cleaning up their act because it is always nice to have alternatives to programs like Adsense.
